A Mountain Resort Committed to the Future of the Mountains

In partnership with Compagnie des Alpes and other stakeholders in the sector, a number of initiatives are being implemented to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and incorporate environmental considerations into every project.

Net Zero Carbon Target

Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Alongside Compagnie des Alpes, La Plagne's ski area is committed to an ambitious trajectory: achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030 for its direct emissions and energy-related emissions.This objective is based on two complementary approaches:

reducing direct emissions by 80%;
offsetting the remaining 20% through the creation of carbon sinks, notably through the planting of 7 hectares of forest in 2023 and 2024.

This strategy covers both direct emissions (vehicle fuel consumption and ski area operations) and energy-related emissions (electricity used to power the lift system). Other indirect emissions, such as visitor travel and the manufacture of equipment, are also being measured and are subject to a programme of continuous reduction.

Litter collection

Taking practical action to protect the mountains

Each year, litter collection campaigns are organised across the La Plagne ski area to help preserve the mountain environment.

In spring, as the snow melts, teams mobilise to collect litter from the slopes, beneath the lift lines and around the resort base areas. These initiatives help reduce pollution across the ski area while also raising awareness among participants. The aim is to monitor the quantities and types of litter found from one year to the next in order to implement targeted waste-reduction measures at source.

These operations form part of a broader awareness-raising programme led by the resort in conjunction with the Montagne Zéro Déchet ("Zero Waste Mountain") charter. The objective is to encourage everyone to adopt responsible habits, reduce waste at source and contribute to the long-term preservation of the mountain environment.

Des projets étudiés avant d’être réalisés

Every development project within the La Plagne ski area is subject to comprehensive environmental assessments before it is implemented. These studies make it possible to evaluate the potential impacts of the works on the natural environment and to adapt projects accordingly.The assessments take into account, in particular:

biodiversity (wildlife and plant life);
wetlands and watercourses;
landscapes and integration into the surrounding environment;
land use and local activities.

These measures help anticipate environmental impacts through the Avoid – Reduce – Compensate (ARC) approach. This methodology involves first avoiding impacts wherever possible, then reducing those that cannot be entirely eliminated, and finally compensating for any remaining effects through environmental enhancement and habitat restoration measures.The objective is clear: to balance the development of the mountain area with the preservation of its ecosystems, ensuring a sustainable coexistence between tourism activities and the natural environment.
